 Ingredients Used in Lemon Rice

Here are the basic ingredients you need to make this delicious lemon rice:

  • Cooked Rice – 2 cups (any variety, preferably Basmati or leftover rice)
  • Mustard Oil – 1 tablespoon (you can also use refined oil)
  • Mustard Seeds – 1 teaspoon this is also important for the limon rice 
  • Cumin Seeds – ½ teaspoon as you need you can add it to the  limon rice
  • Green Chillies – 3 to 4 (chopped) this is use full for the better test while eating 
  • Ginger – 2 to 3 inch piece (grated or finely chopped) as you need you can add it 
  • Curry Leaves – 10 to 12 this is also important for the limon rice 
  • Raw Peanuts – 2 tablespoons if you have then then you can add it to the limon rice
  • Chana Dal (Gram Dal) – 1 tablespoon this we will for good test 
  • Urad Dal – 1 tablespoon this is also use full for the better test 
  • Dry Red Chillies – 2 (broken) this is use full for the better test 
  • Hing (Asafoetida) – ¼ teaspoon if you have then you can add it to the limon rice
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ teaspoon this is also use full for the better colure to the limon rice 
  • Salt – As per taste as you need you can add it to the limon rice
  • Fresh Coriander Leaves – A few (optional) this is also important for the limon rice 
  • Lemon Juice – Juice of 1 lemon as you need you can add it to the limon rice 
  • Ghee (Optional) – ¼ teaspoon this is also important for the limon rice 

Step-by-Step Lemon Rice Recipe

Let’s start making this flavorful lemon rice in a step-by-step format. Step 1: Heat the Oil

  • First, take a pan or kadhai and heat it on medium-high flame.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of mustard oil.
  • If you don’t have mustard oil, you can use refined oil too.

Pro Tip: Mustard oil gives a traditional taste, but refined oil makes it milder.

 Step 2: Add Mustard and Cumin

  • Once the oil is hot, add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds.
  • Wait for the mustard seeds to crackle nicely.
  • Then add ½ teaspoon cumin seeds.

This step gives a strong base flavor to the dish.

 Step 3: Add Chillies and Ginger

  • Add 3 to 4 green chillies (chopped). This makes the dish spicy.
  • Add 2 to 3 inch piece of ginger, grated or finely chopped.
  • Add 10 to 12 curry leaves. You can tear them or add them whole.

 Step 4: Add Peanuts and Roast

  • Now turn the flame to medium.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of raw peanuts.
  • Keep stirring and fry till peanuts become crunchy and light golden.
  • Meanwhile, the ginger will also cook and lose its raw taste.

Tip: Fry for about 4 to 5 minutes, keep stirring.

 Step 5: Add Dal and Dry Red Chillies

  • Add 1 tablespoon chana dal and 1 tablespoon urad dal.
  • Also add 2 dry red chillies, broken into halves.
  • Keep flame low to medium and mix well.

Let the dals get a light brown color. It gives a crispy texture.

 Step 6: Add Hing and Ghee

  • Add ¼ teaspoon asafoetida (hing).
  • Add ¼ teaspoon ghee for extra flavor.
  • Mix well.

Now your tadka is ready. This gives the rice a strong, aromatic base.

 Step 7: Add Cooked Rice

  • Take 2 cups of cooked rice. You can use fresh or leftover rice.
  • Add it to the pan and keep flame low.
  • Add ½ teaspoon turmeric powder.
  • Add salt as per taste (around 1 teaspoon).
  • Mix everything properly so the rice gets an even yellow color.

Note: You can use basmatisona masoori, or any variety you prefer.

 Step 8: Final Touch – Lemon Juice

  • Turn off the flame.
  • Add juice of one fresh lemon.
  • Mix gently so that rice doesn’t break.
