Ingredients Needed for One Cup of Lemon Tea
To make one cup of lemon tea, you will need the following ingredients:
- Half glass of water (around 125 ml) or you can add more also to the lemon tea
- 3-4 basil leaves (also known as tulsi)
- 3-4 black peppercorns
- 1 small piece of ginger (grated or crushed)
- Half a teaspoon of tea leaves (optional)
- A small pinch of salt (optional)
- Half a lemon
- 1 teaspoon of honey (or jaggery/sugar as per taste)
These ingredients are easily available in any Indian kitchen. You don’t need any fancy items. Even if you miss one or two, you can still try it with what you have.
Step-by-Step Recipe – How to Make Lemon Tea
Step 1: Heat Water
Start by heating half a glass of water in a pan. Let the water start boiling.
Tip: If you are making tea for 2 people, you can take 1 full glass of water or increase accordingly.
Step 2: Add Spices and Herbs
Once the water is warm, add crushed ginger, black peppercorns, and basil leaves into it. Let these ingredients fry slightly for 10–15 seconds if you want stronger flavor, or add them directly to boiling water.
Ginger gives a warm taste and helps in cold and cough.
Black pepper is anti-bacterial and good for immunity.
Tulsi or Basil is great for respiratory health.
Step 3: Let It Boil
Allow the water and spices to boil properly for 1-2 minutes. This will help all the juices and nutrients from ginger, tulsi, and black pepper to mix into the water.
You will notice a nice aroma coming from the tea.

Now, add half a teaspoon of tea leaves. This is optional and only if you want a tea-like feel. Don’t add too much. Since this is not milk tea, adding a lot of tea leaves will make it bitter.
Only half the amount of tea leaves used in regular milk tea should be used.
Step 5: Add Salt (Optional)
After the tea has boiled for 1-2 minutes, you can add a pinch of salt. This is totally optional and is mostly for people with diabetes or those who want a different taste.
Step 6: Final Boil
Boil the tea for another 30 seconds to 1 minute after adding salt. Let all the ingredients mix well.
Step 7: Add Lemon & Honey
Turn off the flame. Squeeze half a lemon into the tea. Add 1 teaspoon of honey and mix well. That’s it!
Your lemon tea is now ready to drink.
Note: Never boil lemon or honey in water. Add them only after turning off the flame to keep their nutrients intact.
