Green Paste Ingredients:
- A handful of fresh coriander leaves (dhaniya)
- A handful of mint leaves (pudina)
- 2-3 green chillies
- Juice of 1 lemon
Chicken Marinade:
- 150 grams of chicken (cleaned and washed) this is the main sour of the green chicken
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste as will give you better test while eatting
- Salt to taste as you need you can add it to the green chicken
- 2 tsp black pepper powder this will give you good test
- 1 tsp dried fenugreek leaves you have then you can add it to the green chicken
- 1 tsp chicken masala this is the second sour of the green chicken
- 2 tsp chaat masala it give you good test while eating
- Crushed fried onions this is also important for the green chicken
- Green herb paste (from above) this give you green ness to the chicken
Nutty Paste:
- 7-8 almonds as you need you can add it
- 7-8 cashew nuts this is also important for the chicken
- 1 tbsp poppy seeds (khuskhus) you have then you can add
For Gravy:
- 2 medium-sized onions, sliced and deep-fried
- 1/3 cup fresh curd (thick dahi)
- 2-3 tbsp cooking oil
- Whole spices: 1 piece cinnamon, 2 green cardamoms
Step-by-Step Recipe: How to Make Hyderabadi Green Chicken at Home
Step 1: Roast and Grind Nuts
In a heated pan, roast:

Roast till light golden and crunchy. Let them cool, then grind to make a fine paste. Keep this aside.
Step 2: Fry Onions
In the same pan, heat 4-5 tablespoons of oil. Add sliced onions and fry till golden brown and crispy. Drain them on paper and crush lightly once cool. but fry it properly because this is the main thing in the green chicken
Step 3: Make the Green Masala Paste
Take fresh coriander, mint, green chilies, and juice of 1 lemon. Grind them into a smooth paste. The lemon helps to retain the bright green color naturally. and the colure will get natural to the gree chicken not by adding any colure
Step 4: Marinate the Chicken
Take 150g of cleaned chicken.

- Ginger-garlic paste
- Crushed fried onions
- Chicken masala, chaat masala, salt, black pepper
- Kasuri methi
Mix everything well. Marinate for at least 2 hours (or more for deeper flavor).
Step 5: Start Cooking – Whole Spice Tempering
In a clean pan, heat 2 tbsp oil. Add:
- 1 piece cinnamon
- 2 green cardamoms
Let them release their aroma. Then add the marinated chicken. Sauté for 5 minutes on high flame. Cover and cook for 6-7 minutes on medium flame.
You’ll notice the chicken releasing its own juices – that’s when you know it’s cooking well.

Step 6: Add Curd and Nut Paste
Now add:
- 1/3 cup thick curd
- The nut paste (almond + cashew + poppy seeds)
Mix well. This step gives the dish a rich and creamy texture. Cover and cook again on medium flame for another 6-7 minutes.
Step 7: Let the Chicken Cook Fully
Let the dish simmer on low to medium flame. Stir occasionally. The total cooking time is around 20 to 25 minutes.
By the end, the chicken should be soft, juicy, and coated in a light green creamy gravy.
